Writing poetry using slow writing

Today we used a strategy called slow writing to help us structure our poetry writing on creating images in natural disasters. Please read through our poems and see what you think.

Price of the famine

Staring, amazed by the sculptures, I see the agony of their suffering.
Life is fading.
Their desperate faces haunted me; my stomach plunged into my shoes.
Have you ever imagined how much they have suffered?
Desperately, their heart yearns for food, they know every footstep is getting weaker.
The life ebbs away from them like water down a stream.
On the outside they looked as though they could make it, however on the inside they knew it was no
use.
The mother, who was clinging onto her dead baby, gazed into blankness…

Evaporation results

On Wednesday we did an experiment to see which liquid evaporated the most. Our group decided to test milk, coke and water, and that we wanted to put them in the staff room! When we tested to see how much is left there was hardly anything in each one! We found out that the milk evaporated the most, and there was nearly nothing left. Less than 1ml!

Disaster Collages!

This afternoon some of us started our natural disaster collages. We are really trying to make the materials blend in with the photo. We are also going to a tag rugby session in about fifteen minutes time, Mr Bussey is worried that he may pull a muscle!

Natural disasters in an art collage

In topic we have been looking at natural disasters. For our art we are creating collages of our chosen disaster. Using a range of materials we are building up our interpretation of a volcano erupting, looking into the eye of a hurricane, earthquakes, tsunamis, avalanches and rock slides.

Have a look at our work in progress. The children have fabulous ideas and I cannot wait to see the finished pieces.

Hockey

We are very proud of our year 5/6 hockey team. They competed in the Telford and Wrekin hockey competition. They were only beaten by only one team, and finished second. They will now go through to the world games day final at RAF Shawbury. We will keep you posted!
