Mud pies!

Today we have been trying to get clean water back from a mix of dirt and water.

The children were sent to create their own solution using mud a water, and were then set the task of getting back pure, clean water from their mud pies. The children used a variety of methods including using a sieve, funnels and filter paper. Some methods worked better than others, but all the children showed great effort throughout the activity.

– Do you know what the term ‘dissolve’ means?
– Do you understand what you would use a funnel and a piece of filter paper for?
– What do you think is the most successful way of getting clean water back?

Circuits

20120925-143154.jpg

We had to make a parallel circuit what made one light on and then both lights on. It was quite tricky but in the end we did it. We had to use batteries, two bulbs, quite a few wires and a battery holder.
We were the first ones to complete the circuit. We have enjoyed today even though it was so hard!
We have learnt that a series circuit is where the electricity goes the same way but a parallel circuit is where the electricity goes all different ways. When the switch is open two lightbulbs turn on but when the switch is closed only one lightbulb turns on.

Help my circuit won’t work!

Help we have tried everything and my circuit just wont work! First we tried changing the battery’s and that didn’t work then tried replacing the bulb that didn’t work then finally we tried changing the wires but that didn’t work either! What else should we do to try and make it work?
