One of the most important jobs in Reception is to nurture a love of reading.
To this end, the children have been helping us to make new reading areas both inside and outside the classroom.
Inside, we have a reading garden with cushions and beanbags. The children are currently painting flowers which will also decorate the area.
Outdoors, we have our “Wild about Reading” Area – it is covered in camouflage and has a bookcase made from a pallet to make it more exciting – take a look at the photographs!
The new areas are very popular and children are enjoying fiction and non-fiction books.
As well as encouraging children to read more, the new areas are also great for the their social development. There is a noticeable impact during reading time when children have been sharing books with each other and talking about them with their friends.
