Moorfield Memorial – commemorative tree planting

The children at Moorfield school decided that they would like to plant a tree as a memorial to Queen Elizabeth II.

Elizabeth II was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and 15 at the time.

They chose to mark this piece of history by planting a cherry blossom tree at the outside of the school.

We are all looking forward to seeing it grow and blossom.

Once the King’s coronation has taken place, we hope to plant a second tree as a long lasting memorial to Queen and King.

Charles III is King of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. He acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022 upon the death of his mother, Elizabeth II. He was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history and, at the age of 73, is the oldest person to ascend the British throne.

The children of Base 2 helped Mrs Boyle to put the tree in place this morning.

A plaque will be attached to the trees to mark each occasion.
