Meet our Stars of the Week!

We thought that we would tell you a little bit more about of the Star of the Week Assembly this week.

The Government COVID re-opening regulations state that we can’t have assemblies at the moment which is the time when the school all get together each week.

We can’t sing in a big group at the moment either, so we wanted to find a way for the children in each bubble to connect with the rest of the school.

During Lockdown we often had a Teams Assembly where children would sit in each bubble and each class would join in -just like you may be using Microsoft Teams for meetings at the moment if you are working from home.

We have continued this since the school re-opened in September. Miss Hedges runs around school delivering the trophies and the stickers (probably the only bit of exercise she gets all week!).

Pyramids with Base 8

As part of our ‘World Wonders’ topic we loved learning about the pyramids in Egypt. We had great fun learning about the ancient wonders, before creating our own pyramid. The children were particularly surprised to learn that the real meaning of ‘ancient’ meant much older than Mrs Gilbert and they will have a house point awaiting them on Monday if they can recall what ‘ancient wonder’ refers to.

Reception Portraits

Reception have been looking at similarities and differences between themselves and others. We have used paint and felt tips to create these super self portraits! I think you can recognise most of the children even without the name labels !

Meet Base Two

Year 6 children in Base Two have been introducing themselves to the rest of the class and talking about their likes and dislikes and their hopes and dreams.

They had a little help from the Greedy Gator to help them remember how to write the symbol.

Base 5 – Egyptians

Year 3 and 4 are learning about the Egyptians. We were lucky enough to borrow some artefacts from the library and the children in Base 5 enjoyed working with them in their lessons last week.

Children were exploring the Egyptian artefacts linked to their current topic: Ancient Egypt.

The children were thinking about the following questions “What was it used for?”, “What skills were needed to make it?” and “What does this tell us about life in Ancient Egypt?”

Ask your children at home to talk to you about some of the things that they saw.

Base 2 Maths

Children in Base 2 are working on their mental maths this morning.

They are adding mentally, including with large numbers and they are solving reasoning questions involving addition.

Children are learning to add whole numbers mentally by using number bonds and place value knowledge while also learning the place value of each digit in a number.

By the end of the lesson they should understand how to solve a range of reasoning questions involving addition.

As you can see, they were all working hard!
