Hannah and Megan’s day

Hannah is Year 3 and her sister Megan is in Year One

Home school was outside today and the weather is amazing so they decided to do their allowed exercise and took the dog for a walk across the fields, had races, played cops and robbers and galloped like unicorns ! Not so much English and Maths today but sounds like plenty of fresh air and exercise with no one else in sight ! Well done girls!

George’s Day

George is one of our Year 4 pupils and today he did the Body Coach workout , a reading comprehension and practiced timestables using Timestables Rockstars. And THEN he made these lovely cakes ! George we will be expecting you to bake us some when you come back!

Base 3 Maths

This morning Base 3 are recapping their topic of Time.

They are currently doing a test and then will work together to look at the answers and do some practical work connected to this.

The purpose of this is to identify what children already know about time.

If you want to help your children revise this at home, you can work with them to:

  • Know the number of minutes in an hour;
  • Practice how to sequence intervals of time;
  • Practice quarter past and quarter to the hour.

Base 6 Science

Today in Science, Base 6 have been looking at sound.

Children have carried out a Sound Survey and have looked at different sounds that are made around the school.

They have worked in groups, visiting different areas of the school. One member of each group had a clipboard and pen and noted their findings.

Once they were back in class, they were given the Sound Survey to complete.

Examples of the sounds they heard were typing and talking in the office and plates banging in the kitchen. They also went outside and heard sounds like the wind blowing through the trees.

They were asked to describe the sounds that they could hear in each area and what was vibrating to make each sound.

We are sure the children would like to tell you about their survey, and perhaps you could do your own survey at home.

Base 5 Maths

Today Base 5 have been working on Multiplication

They have been working on a formal written method (column method) to multiply 2-digit x 1-digit numbers.

They are learning how to use the exchange method.

For example, when multiplying 25 x 2, they need to exchange or carry over a digit to get the answer, but with 24 x2 this is not necessary.

By the end of this morning, children will know that:

a) Multiplication calculations can also be represented using repeated addition

b) Understand what to do when there are ten or more ones in a column e.g. 25 x 2

c) Will be able to solve multiplication calculations that involve exchange using equipment and formal written methods.

In addition to this, it is expected that by the end of Year 3, children should know their 3,4 and 8 times times tables fluently, so it would be useful if you could practice these at home.

Children have access to an online resource called Times Tables Rockstars which will also help them practice.

We have included the link for you here.

Base 3 Art

This afternoon in Art , Base 3 have been painting with watercolours. They have been experimenting with different techniques including blending and bleeding.

Mrs Freeman Evans is pleased to report that only one pot of water was knocked off the desk during this exercise!

T

Art

Today, Miss Oliver’s class have been working on Arctic landscapes in the style of Ted Harrison.  Ted Harrison was a famous Canadian artist famed for his landscapes using line and colour.

The children have been working with different textures, including watercolour, clay and pencil.

Today one of Ted’s watercolours was shown on the whiteboard and children have been using this as a base to make their own line drawing which they will then fill with watercolour.

They have been developing various artistic skills and have been working with other children on their table to show that they can communicate ideas and collaborate with others.

Children have been using a sketch book to record observations and then using this to review and revisit ideas.

They hope to improve their mastery of art and design techniques including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials for example, pencil, charcoal, paint and clay.

Once they have finished the artwork, children will be using different sources of information to learn about great artists in history.

All the year 3 and year 4 children are working on the same project in Art and are at different stages of it.

If you would like to find out some more about Ted Harrison and do some work with your children at home, there are some ideas on this website:
